How to Fit Purpose into a Mombie Busy Life

Have you ever felt so overwhelmingly busy that everything in you and around you feels like it’s lacking? Lacking purpose… lacking impact… and more than anything… lacking YOU!


Maybe you’ve become a ‘mombie’ (aka. Zombie-mom).

You know, the kind of mom that just does what she must do, but at the end of the day… dreams of the things that she feels she is missing out on. The dream list, the bucket list… all those things you want to do, but never have the time for. Yeah, those things.

Ugh, grab the Kleenex girl.

If you’re raising kids, working, keeping a house in order, and trying to make time for your spouse, you don’t have a lot of time to find your purpose… let alone your FIERCE.  

As a mom, you can face a lot of limitations that hold you back from making an impact or finding your purpose. Even if you’re not a mom, you can have a lot on your plate. Women often feel burned out and overwhelmed by everything they have to handle.

So, how do you create that purpose in your life and live a more impactful life?

Here are a few ideas you can try to start working toward living a more purposeful life—no matter what your life might look like right now.

1. Set a purpose in your life.

This is much easier said than done, but there are things you can do to make sure you find that purpose. First, you will need to identify your strengths. What are the things you’re good at? Identify your passions. What ignites that fire from within?

Then, begin to brainstorm. Think of all the ways that those strengths, skills or passions can benefit someone else. This might be volunteer work or just teaching someone something new. Explore the things you can do with those skills. Find new ways to enjoy who you are and what you can do.

By simply having a purpose in place, you will feel like your life is more meaningful right away. You will be able to focus on that purpose and keep working toward aligning your life with it.

2. Find purpose in your work.

Some of us end up doing work we don’t necessarily care for. We might not feel like we are making an impact on others. This can be a problem and can stop people from finding purpose in their lives. It will take some work, but it’s important to rethink how you view your career. When you view your job as being meaningful or important, you will feel much more positive about your job and your life.

Take some time to think about your current job. Look at it as more than just a way to make money so you can survive. Consider the ways that make you feel like your job has meaning. This might include some meaningful things that have happened during your career. This might be a simple shift in your attitude about work. Now, what do you do when you literally just HATE your job no matter what you try? Well… maybe it’s time for a switch! (That’s ok!)

I have to say this to you: I don’t want you to settle in life and stay stuck in a career or job you can’t stand. I want you to take a BIG, BOLD step toward a career change IF that’s what is right for you! You deserve to finally chase your dream job and answer the call on your life. How amazing would you feel if you had a career and dream job you truly loved? It’s possible when you find your fierce and OWN IT!

Your life already has a purpose and so does your life’s work. It’s important to acknowledge that and treat your job that way.

3. Study the group of people you have in your circle.

Your friends and family can make you feel like you have meaning. Or they can do the exact opposite. So, it’s vital to be around people who value you, lift you up, and make you feel needed or wanted.

If you’re spending time with people who don’t value you as a person, you can feel like your life doesn’t have meaning. They may tear you down when they speak negatively. They might say nothing at all.

It’s so important to find those people in your life who can uplift you no matter what. While positive self-talk and confidence in yourself can be great, it can also help to have those positive interactions with those around you.

If you find that your friends or family are negative or make you doubt your worth, it can be wise to find other people to spend time with. You don’t need to cut the negative people out completely, but you should limit your exposure to them.

4. Find small ways to make a difference.

You having a purpose or living an impactful life doesn’t have to be huge and heroic. You can make small efforts. Every life that you impact is important.

You can work on being more positive toward your kids. Maybe you want to serve at your favorite non-profit organization. Find small ways that you can have an impact. These things still improve the lives of those around you and can help you to realize the value you have.

It’s okay to take baby steps and work on this a little bit at a time. Knowing that you’re trying to make a change will help to boost your confidence and improve the way you feel about the idea of your life’s purpose.
